At the trailer launch of their upcoming film Veere Di Wedding, actresses Kareena Kapoor Khan, Sonam Kapoor and Swara Bhasker refrained from commenting on choreographer Saroj Khan’s controversial remarks about casting couch in Bollywood. At a recent event in Sangli, Saroj Khan was asked a question about Telugu actress Sri Reddy’s protests against sexual exploitation of female artists in the film industry. To this, Saroj had replied, “Government ke log karte hain to tum film industry ke peeche kyun pade ho? Wo to roti to bhi deti hai, rape karke chorr to nahi deti. (Even people in the government abuse girls and women, why are you after the film industry? The industry also provides livelihood, it does not discard a woman after raping her).
Refusing to react to the statement, Swara Bhasker said, “Firstly, this topic has nothing to do with our film Veere Di Wedding, and I think today we should keep our focus on the film. For the rest of thing, you please come on my Twitter timeline.” Adding to that, Kareena said: “I do not think we should divert focus from this film. This is a very special film, and we have put a lot of effort. I think the film should get its relevant attention.”
Meanwhile, Sonam Kapoor promised to answer questions about the issue during her personal interviews for the movie. “I would like to say that all these questions which are not related to film, I promise that we will answer them on one-on-one interactions with you people. But not today. We are trying to keep the focus on the film. We will talk about it in our personal time,” she said.
Directed by Shashanka Ghosh and produced by Rhea Kapoor, Ekta Kapoor and Nikhil Dwivedi, Veere Di Wedding is scheduled to release on June1, 2018.
