Shilpa Shetty is a renowned and well established actress in the Bollywood film industry. She was born on the 8th of June 1975 in Mangalore city of the state Karnataka. Her fathers name is Surendra Shetty and mothers name is Sunanda Shetty. She has a younger sister, named Shamita Shetty who is also into the Bollywood industry. Her mother tongue is Tulu, however she can speak various other languages including Gujrati, Marathi and Tamil, excluding the basic languages. She has also trained herself in French. She completed her schooling in Mumbai from St. Antony Girls High School situated in Chembur, and later completed her college education from the Podar College, situated in Matunga. She has trained herself in the Indian classical dance form called Bharatnatyam. During her school days, she excelled in academics as well as in sports and other curricular activities. She participated in sports like volleyball during the school days and also has a black belt in the art form karate.
Before her entry into the Bollywood film industry, Shilpa Shetty worked as a model, and has campaigned for Limca in the year 1991. At that time she was just 16 years old. She got her first break in the Bollywood industry in the year 1993 with the film Baazigar. However, she was first seen playing a lead role in the year 1994 for the movie Aag. Her film Main Khiladi Yu Anari, with her co- star Akshay Kumar was released in the year 1994. The movie was a hit among the audiences. In the year 1996, Shilpa Shetty had six releases including one in Telugu. In the year 1998, she was well acclaimed by the critics for her role in the movie Pardesi Babu. Later, in the year 2000, her film titled Dhadkan did fairly well and her role was well praised. She was nominated for her role in the same during various award functions. Her role as a fisherwoman in the film Rishtey, where she was seen supporting Anil and Karishma Kapoor was released in the year 2002, and was very well accepted by the audiences. In the year 2004, she was seen with Salman Khan in the movie titled Garv which did fairly well at the box- office. In the coming year, she was seen with her younger sister, Shamita Shetty in a film titled Fareb. In the year 2007, she was seen in two biggest hits titled Life In A...... Metro and Apne. Her role in the film Life In A.... Metro was judged by the critics as the best in her whole career. In the same year, she was seen in the UK based reality show named Celebrity Big Brother. Though she underwent a racial controversy being the house, her post life had many changes as she was shot to fame by her victory.
Shilpa Shetty owns a cricket franchise team named the Rajasthan Royals with her husband, Raj Kundra. Her other committments include working for the HIV positive patients in India in particular and also from the various campaigns of the organization working for the welfare of the animals, named PETA.
